Acropolis - Parthenon, Athens, Greece.

Lynette's Post

"Diving into history! We walked up to the Acropolis and explored the temples. They’ve endured much since their days of glory in the 5th century BC; they’ve been ransacked, occupied and blown up. During the excavation process many columns, statues and fragments were recovered and officials continue to reconstruct what they can.
Visiting the Acropolis Museum adds even more to the picture, helping visitors see the magnitude of the temple areas of these ancient populations.
One ah-ha discovery this time: the columns of the temple all have a slight bow and lean in, partly to support the weight of the roof and partly…mysterious: mathematically, if you drew a straight line up from each column they would intersect 7km above."

Today was amazing! It was a lot of walking. Tex was able to get a cab to the entrance and the rest of us endured the hike. I absolutely love ruins! The history and depth is nothing short of amazing! I loved seeing al the relics in the museum and the little details like the footprint of the museum being the same as the actual relic outside.

The ancient theater and the fact that you can see the stairs continue up and the "bleachers" there still have not been excavated. It's incredible to think how much is still there!

Here you see how much was unearthed at the base of the museum which they protected and exposed as well.

The Horton's were exausted so we decided to take a nap. The rest of the gang went out for a bite to eat. When we woke up we went out to the piazza and enjoyed some "shaved" ice cream.

Such a beautiful day.
