The Poseidon Temple & Papagiannakos Winery.

Lynette's narative

"More ancient temples and old vines. we went south out of Athens to the southern tip of the Attica region to find the temple of Poseidon, hear more myths and legends and sample some wonderful wines at Papagiannakos."

The breakfast from the 360 is hands down one of the best ive seen. Great selection of eggs, potatoes, mushrooms, cheeses, yogurts, olives, & traditional selections. Their daily hand squeezed juice was epic. And the pastry table... oh the pastry table!

The Poseidon Temple was now one of my favorites! The crowds were much smaller that the Acropolis and the ske in the back drop was stunning on this day! We saw some resident pheasants walking around the ruins. The views of the Aegean Sea were also breathtaking!

After some free time we headed to the Papagiannakos Winery for some "nibbles" and wine tasting. I loved learning about the vines of the region and how the root structure is coiled around itsilf to make a little "hut" to protect the grapes from the heat using the vines as a "Roof" All the grapes are tucked inside until they are ripe. It was also cool to learn that they only water the infants because once they are about two years of age the root structure goes deep enough into the volcanic soil that they no longer need the water they get it from the earth.

That evening we picked a local Pasta Restaurant that Sheree picked out. After a day of great wine and great friends we wanted to carry that into the evening.

After supper and a walk around the village we headed to Hansel and Gretel's for desert which was to die for! We also caught a train coming through town which was amazing because the graffiti, not just on the trail but everywhere was like art!

Another lovely day!
