Crabbing in Newport

Every time we go to the coast we always see people crabbing off of the docks, this time we included time to crab into our trip. The only problem was we had no idea what we were doing. As we pulled into Newport we began asking questions and they sent us to Hairy's Bait Shop and boy oh boy did Hairy set us up, and he was funny too!

Once we had all of our supplies we headed down to the dock. It was actually the dock where my dear sweet husband proposed to me, you all know it, it is the one where all the sea lions hang out. It was a beautiful day on the coast! We stayed there all day!. Funny thing was our first catch was a Red Rock crab which we would have been able to keep but he seamed small so we let him go.

Crabbing is so much more exciting than fishing. You can pull the cage in every few minute and we caught something every time. We learned how to tell the males from the females and how to measure the Dungeness for size in order to keep them.

Once we had enough to feed the gang we headed off to find the place where we could steam the crabs. This was great because apparently it is very stinky and we were not allowed to do it in our rental so we had it done in the port. They hooked us up for 5 bucks then we through them on ice and headed home for dinner.

Once we got home we prepared our steaks and potatoes and then Sheree heated up the crab. It really was a fabulous meal and a fabulous day!

"What Day Is It?", "Enchanted Forest Day!"

Bye Sunriver... Hello Enchanted Forest!

All weekend Sheree has been excited about The Enchanted Forest. I remember last year after our trip to the coast she asked us if we stopped there. Tristan was asleep and there was no way we were waking him for a silly little side road park. Then Sheree told us we totally missed out. Well, she was not going to let us miss out this year!

If you have never been, it is a sort of mini amusement park. As you enter their are life size scales of all of your childhood rhymes and riddles. Then they become interactive, some are a bit scary! When we got inside we took a turn o the haunted house but Tristan did not make it through one room. Then is was off to the Log Ride! After a few more rides it was time for some shopping and some crazy face paint, at least for Tristan anyway! This was such a great day! Loved sharing it with great friends!

We arrived at our house in Lincoln City, this will be our home away from home for the rest of the week! The weather could not be better, it is 68 degrees here and 107 at home! Yikes! Of course we had to go right down to the beach! The kids had a blast!

Tomorrow we are going crabbing!
