Bear Lake 2014

Every Labor Day weekend my dear sweet friend Sheree celebrates her birthday and our families usually spend the weekend together. We have also began running races of some kind when we travel. This weekend was no exception. Our original intent was to run the 1/2 marathon to ring in her 40 years but when we saw it was 1800 feet of elevation gain with a 4 hour cut off we opted for the 10 K, which should also not be discounted as it had 700 feet in elevation gain.

Tex, Tristan, and I headed out Friday night and we stopped in Burley for the night just to break up the trip. Saturday morning we got up and headed for Utah. Once we finally made it Tex realized he forgot his Ipad at a restaurant in Logan so he had to go back to get it. Johnnie, Sheree, Paige, Tristan and I went to find Bloomington Lake. This is a glacial lake the Johnnie was referred to by a friend. It was a good little drive but then only about a mile hike which was good for the kids. We packed in our fishing poles to do some fishing. Tristan just loves to fish. I did not really expect to catch any fish but to my surprise we were getting many bites and caught a couple of fish with in the coupe hours we were there. The scenery was just stunning! I could have spent the entire day there!

Sunday after some breakfast and a brief catastrophe of Tristan finger getting slammed in the door by the wind, we headed out to Minnetonka Caves.  This was 444 steps into the core of the earth. The caves were discovered by a grouse hunter in 1907 and been renovated over the years. This trip was well worth the wait and the kids enjoyed it too.

The kids passed the time by playing patti cake.
Love it!

We capped off the day with pizza at a local eatery, (the only one open on Sunday), then a trip to the Chocolate Bear... oh yea! Sheree and I had to head out to packet pick up so the boys took the kids swimming. Let me tell you, an indoor pool on Labor Day weekend in a resort town... I don't know how Johnnie and Tex handled it, it was so loud in there I could not stand it for 5 minutes. We had the kids dry off the it was off to the beach! Can one cram in any more in one day?

Tex made us Pu Pu's while we were out : )

I loved that Paige was reading Tristan a story before bed!

Well, it is not race morning and 42 degrees....
WHAT WERE WE THINKING?

Well, we are here so we might as well run this thing with the other 5 10k racers, no really 7 of us.
All in all it was a beautiful race and a beautiful weekend!

The 5k turnaround was spray painted on the ground.

An unmanned aid station  : )

Breathtaking view down.

We crossed 3 cattle guards.

We had A cheering section, again we had A cheering section.

But most important we had two great friends spending another great weekend together!

Ok, so this was hilarious, and Sheree did not even know I took this picture. But as she was trucking up the last little incline there was a bill board in front of her the said 24 minutes to the nearest ER. I wish the sign showed up better because it really was hilarious!

After the race we drove down on the beach to take some post race photos.

 OK 10 second photo shoot...
ready go!

Love this girl!

On our way out of town Tex and I stopped at the scenic over look. We did not do it on the way in but I wanted to stop on the way out and super glad we did!
