How does one say goodbye to a woman who has inspired your every being of being an incredible mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. Gail has been such an inspiration in my life. I can recall always being inspired by what she did with and for her family all while working a job that she so dearly loved. When she left that job she put every cent of her being into her family, this is the legacy that Gail will leave with me. I am so grateful that I was able to share this with Gail before she left this earth. I am more grateful that she will still continue to inspire my parenting even though she has gone. What I am most grateful for is that someday we will get to see each other again and she will no longer be in pain. I love you sis, thank for being you. I am forever grateful. Now we move forward one step at a time.
Gail Bishop Welter July 5, 1965 - May 9, 2024
Our beloved Gail passed peacefully in Mountain View at age 58, 10 months after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Born the baby of the family in San Francisco to parents Alice and Bruce Bishop, who pre-deceased her, Gail grew up in San Mateo. After graduating from Hillsdale High School, Gail attended Mills College (as did her mother and both grandmothers) before enrolling at Duke University, where she earned her B.A. in psychology, swam distance freestyle and butterfly, and developed an infectious passion for all things Blue Devils.
After college, Gail returned to the mid-Peninsula, where she spent her career working in the family stationery and office supply business. Gail found her future husband and father of her children in one of her skydiving students, Steve Welter. Spending their entire married life in Belmont, the two recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. While Gail was adventurous, loyal, and passionate about many things—from classical viola and games with her family and friends, to animal rights and environmental awareness—her pride and joy were her two children, Carrie and Colin. She found immense pleasure in supporting their academic, athletic, and, especially, their vocal and theatrical pursuits. Upon retirement, Gail shifted focus to volunteer and charitable work on behalf of organizations including San Carlos Children’s Theater, Carlmont High School Arts Council, SchoolForce, and Coastside Community Orchestra. Gail is survived by her husband and children; her obsessively protective chihuahua-terrier Tooey; an attractive (if rather stout) tabby cat Squeaky; older siblings Bob and Janet Bishop and their families; and many adoring extended relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, Gail’s family suggests donations to the cancer organization of your choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 7, 2024, 2 p.m. at the Carlmont High School Performing Arts Center at 1400 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont, CA 94002
The family met for breakfast before heading to the service at Clarmont. The celebration was perfect. All of the speakers who shared stories of how Gail inspired them, loved them, Colin's performance, the highlight video, everyone who shared from near and far. It was perfect.
We love you Gail, now, forever, and always.
