Iceland Day 2 Super Jeep, Golden Circle Gullfoss, 4 diggin, & the Aurora's now thats a big day!

Day 2 started with breakfast at the hotel, it was a lovely English breakfast in a beautiful setting. You would never tell this photo of the pool was taken at 8am.

We made a brief stop at this beautiful waterfall.

Then it was on to the Golden Circle

After a brief stop it was on towards the Geyser geothermal area in Haukadalur where you can see geysers, hot springs, steam vents and eerie blue algae. Strokkur is one of the largest and most powerful geysers and erupts almost every 5 minutes.

The final stop of the Golden Circle takes you to Gullfoss waterfall, which many consider to be the queen of Icelandic waterfalls, as it is both high and mighty and stumbles dramatically in a deep gorge. We then have a lunch break at Gullfoss Café, before trying out our Superjeep vehicles off road: the ride will take you to the highlands, rough terrain and glacier area of Langjökull (Icelandic for "long glacier"), known to be the second largest ice cap in Iceland (953 km2).

We stopped to visit the island horses. They are so cute!

Then it was off to the Glacier, which we never made it to because after numerous times of getting stuck the clutch went out in our "Super Jeep" Two other jeeps came to save the day! Because it took us an hour and a half to get back we missed the National Park but Super Jeep did buy us lunch.

Once we made it back to the lodge and got some warm soup in our bellies we walked down to see the Gullfoss waterfall. It was so bitterly cold. Tex did not want to go and Johnny, Sheree & Paige went ahead of us. Tristan and I would follow.

Gullfoss Waterfall

We decided to cap the night off with a trip to the hot tub. I will not be able to create the hysteria here but it was so cold trying to get to the hot tub, then meeting two new people in the hot tub in which we totally interrupted. Finding that there was absolutely no way we could stay in the hot tub due to the fact that it was so windy and cold. It was absolutely unbearable but yet priceless, we all went back to our room to take a hot shower an the decided to turn in early. We shut off the lights, turned off the TV and were then greeted by the most beautiful displayed light show that we would ever see! The Aurora Borialis is something I only dreamed of seeing and tonight it became a reality. The funny thing was we were all nestled down in bed and Tex said "there they are". All I saw was a cloud... a cloud that began to move and then turn to beautiful shades of green. When I realized it was in fact the Northern Lights I ran to the Z-W's door and started to scream. I put on my coat and boots and ran outside with the camera. We were blessed with the most beautiful display of God's art for 45 minutes. With tears running down my cheeks I could hardly contain myself. Paige began to capture some beautiful pictures and I quickly downloaded her app and accidentally captures a 2 second video that I will cherish forever. As the display ended I settled down to sleep and could barely close my eyes as I wanted to stay awake to watch for more lights but soon we all drifted off.
