Day 4 - Pompeii

Today was a travel day, we boarded the train in Rome and headed south for Napoli. While waiting on our driver we enjoyed some wonderful pastries in the train station.
Once he arrived we loaded the coach and headed to Canrina Del Vesuvio, a lovely little winery on the slops of Mount Vesuvius. There we enjoyed lovely wines grown through the volcanic ash of the past, aged and bottled here locally. This is a third generation winery. We were served fresh tomatoes and egg plant, along with cheese and sliced bread. They have a lovely vinaigrette that I can’t wait to share! lunch was a fabulous spaghetti with home grown tomato sauce which is to die for. Desert was light cake which was also yummy.
Once we departed from the winery we headed for a private tour of Pompeii. This may be one of my favorite sites yet. The archeological integrity captured by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79ad is absolutely astonishing. The relics uncovered from volcanic desolation is simply incredible. Our guide did a wonderful job today keeping us out of the heat and capturing all of our interests. After the tour we all got done refreshments and then we were off for the Amalfi coast.
First stop Priano. We arrived at our hotel Locando Costo Divo after about an hours drive. I can’t even begin to try to tell you how beautiful this place is. It is like nothing I’ve ever seen. Homes scattered across the steep hillside covered in cobble stone streets so narrow you can’t believe the coaches make their way. The blue, Amalfi coastline seems endless and the lemons are the size of a small football.
Once we settled in we enjoyed gnocchi covered in the familiar tomato sauce but each new chef seems to find some variance that captures the local flavor. The main coarse was eggplant parmigiano which was also delightful. Tonight we were given choices for desert, lemon sorbet, chocolate cake, pear cheesecake, and gelato, each one was heavenly.
I am so blessed to share these amazing adventures with my family and friends.
