Waipio Valley

Today we packed a lunch and headed to Waipio Valley. Waipio Valley is the first in several valleys on the big island. This particular Valley was destroyed by a tsunami in the early 1900's. There is a beautiful black sand beach there and you can only drive down to the bottom with a 4 wheel drive do to a very traitorous road and a 25% grade. I had never been down to the bottom before today. We ate lunch on the back of the pick up before going to the beach to play.


Tristan had fun playing in the field with Tasha before going down to the beach. It is rather funny that he is afraid of her at times but follow her when she is running around. It was so cute.



At the head of this valley lies the largest waterfall on the island. You can not see it from this beach but it forms a river which meets the ocean here.

Tristan was a little afraid of the high surf but really enjoyed playing in the sand. So did dad!

In this valley there are many wild horses that roan the valley floor.

Here is a picture of the waterfall. We drove to it after we left the beach. It is not running very high right now as there has not been a large amount of rain.

These photo's were taken from the observation point at the top of the valley. You can see were the river comes in to the ocean, that is were we were playing.
