I am writing this note after indulging in some wine (and you know how I am after a couple of glasses of wine) and pesto pasta in our wonderful apartment in Genoa Old Town.
The day began as usual with a jog down to the water and then breakfast and a shower. It was rent day for the apartment so our landlord, Markus, met us at the apartment and then we all went for some lunch. When we got to the restaurant, Markus saw some friends and introduced us to two executives at the Port Authority. They invited us to tour the facility later and Patti was given their cards. We continued with our lunch and Markus reminded me that he had connections at the hospital and would do what he could to get Len the best care while he was in the hospital. (Thank you, Markus)
After lunch Patti and I headed for the port and were given a beautiful tour by these two gracious men. The building was built around 1300 and has quite a history. It has always been a public building and was even a prison at one time and housed Marco Polo. At the end of the tour the gentlemen gave each of us a wonderful book with story and pictures of the building. Thanks so much.
We then headed back to the hospital to see Len. After yesterday we were anxcious to see Len and check what improvements had been made over night. Dr. Silvia was on duty and she was very pleased with his progress. He was allowed some soft food and this was quite encouraging. He ate every thing he was given . and ask if he wanted more would nod yes. Dr. Silvia said this was a good sign and one they look for neurologicly.(Is that a word) He smiled a lot and seemed even more relaxed than yesterday. He had his left hand restrained a little so we know he was trying to pull out some of the tubes. Just another sign he is getting stronger. I didn't get as many kisses today but got one when we arrived. We were also told that we could bring him ice cream tomorrow so we are bringing strawberry gelato to him. I know he can hardly wait. Dr. Silvia also wants us to come early now and come in one person at a time to keep him stimulated. She also suggested that we bring some music for him to listen to. He has his nano with him so will bring that. The Dr. said that he could be moved out of ICU as early as Monday. We are very encouraged. I keep a positive attitude and so does Patti.
I don't think we could have had such positive results without your encouragement and constant prayers and positive energy. Thank you so much but don't stop. Dick, I gave him a kiss from you(Ha!). Please enjoy some photos from our day in Genoa.
Love and Aloha,
Sue
